Have you ever wondered how it feels to love like God? I sure have. I think the closest I can come to experiencing that type of love is the love I have for my baby. One positive thing this pandemic has done is given us more time. We have more time to think. Time to reevaluate our lives. Time to read. Time to solidify our belief systems. Time to love.
The Seven Types of Love
- Eros – Romantic love or sexual love.
- Storge – Affection shared by family members.
- Philia – Friendship.
- Philautia – Self-love.
- Pragma – Enduring love such as in long-term friendships and marriages.
- Ludus – Playful and uncommitted love. Flirting.
- Agape – Sacrificial love. Unconditional love. God’s love. The highest form of love.
Agape Love
Derived from Ancient Greek, the seven types of love demonstrate how clearly it is to describe one’s love for someone. Agape love represents the distinctive, unconditional, and volitional love of God for humans. Agape love is profound and it does not waver.
If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. If I give all I possess to the poor and surrender my body to the flames, but have not love, I gain nothing. Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.
