Happy Leap Day! February 29th is a special day as it only comes around every four years. The leap year was invented as a way to balance out the four seasons. We say there are 365 days a year but actually, there are 365 days, 5 hours, 48 minutes and 56 seconds in a solar calendar. That is the actual time it takes Earth to revolve around the sun. A leap year makes up for the difference in time. If we didn’t incorporate leap years, in 100 years, our calendar would be 24 days off. That means our normal spring season which usually starts late March, in the northern hemisphere, would end up in late February! Enjoy this spectacular day!
Do you know anyone who was born on February 29th? If so, when do they traditionally celebrate their birthday?
